The Government of India designed an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) under the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS-140) to ensure a state-of-art transport infrastructure with quality, efficiency and safety. The system is designed with the objective to centrally monitor all the passenger vehicles registered in the country and smoothen the traffic control to avoid congestions with improved safety, quality, efficiency & comfort and enhanced response time in emergencies.

About AIS-140 and its features:

AIS-140 (Automotive Industry Standard-140) is a standard as specified by ARAI which states that all vehicles coming under the 'passenger vehicles' category must be installed with vehicle tracking systems and emergency button approved by ARAI and iCAT.

• The devices will have embedded eSIM and would poll on dual servers and transmit data to: government’s control central server and service provider.
• The devices would transmit these data to the Back-end Control Centre using 2G/3G/4G wireless connectivity (with SMS fall back) as per the protocol.
• The data from the devices would travel over the wireless telecom service provider network and finally get delivered at the Back-end Control Centre.
